Lagos, January 16, 2019 – The African Philanthropy Forum announces the appointment of Switin Munyantwali, to its Board of Directors.
Swithin Munyantwali is the Vice Chairman and Co-Founder of the International Law Institute African Centre for Legal Excellence (ILI-ACLE), an affiliate of the International Law Institute, in Washington, DC. Since its establishment two decades ago, Mr. Munyantwali has led the operations of the Centre serving a broad constituency of sub-Saharan African governments, private and non-governmental organizations through technical assistance and training. In addition to his position at ILI-ACLE, Mr Munyantwali also heads the Appleton Luff’s East African Office, an international boutique law firm separately incorporated in Europe, Asia, the United States, and Africa. As an Arbitrattor, he has served as a party-appointed arbitrator under the auspices of the International Chamber of Commerce (power and telecoms disputes), and currently the World Bank International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (energy dispute) – with seats in Tanzania, and Washington, DC.
Mr Munyantwali chairs and serves on several distinguished boards, including as Chairman of the Board of Directors for Barclays Bank in Uganda and as a Board Member of the International Law Institute in Washington, DC. He previously served as the Chairman of the Barclays Bank, Uganda’s Human Resources and Compensation Committee, and as the Chair of the Board Audit Committee.

The African Philanthropy Forum’s Board of Directors led by the Board Chair, Tsitsi Masiyiwa is comprised of experts with legal, consulting, philanthropy, international development, social entrepreneurship and investment backgrounds. Other Board Members include: HRH the Nnabagereka (Queen) Sylvia Nagginda. Ndidi Nwuneli, and Gbenga Oyebode.
Established in 2014, The African Philanthropy Forum is a community of philanthropists and social investors who seek to influence and actualize inclusive and sustainable development in Africa by Africans. Since inception, APF has devoted its efforts to promoting homegrown philanthropy and establishing a stronger presence on the Continent with footprints in eleven countries including Cameroon, Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania and Uganda through its Regional Meetings and Annual Conferences.
